Tuscany, Italy The basic philosophy at Salcheto winery is that there should be a synergy between the earth and all growing things, including man. The goal is to respect this relationship on a daily basis, as they attempt to maintain a balance with nature through sustainable farming and winemaking practices. Ultimately, wine with a great expression of quality and authenticity will be achieved. Salco is the winery’s most important vineyard and label designate. The word means willow tree in ancient Tuscan. And Salcheto is the name of the stream that runs through our property where willows once grew in abundance. The family has just begun to replant willow trees on the estate in areas not suitable for viticulture. Eventually they will use the wood for heating, with the goal of creating a sustainable green system at the winery that is 100 percent energy independent.
